2006 Convention June 1st-3rd, Squaw Creek, CA
2006 Convention Wrap-Up
POPA just celebrated their 10th anniversary annual Convention in Squaw Valley, California on June 1-2-3. The Convention was held at the Squaw Creek Resort located at the foot of Squaw Valley, with views of the surrounding mountains that were second to none. Squaw Creek Resort was fabulous and provided us with elegant room accommodations and convention facilities.
This year was a record for vendor booths. In addition to the vendor booths, we had all the auction donations on display, plus an internet café for attendees to sue. The café was a huge success, with both laptops being used almost full time.
The academic sessions this year were very well received. Greg Feith, our featured speaker, Greg Feith’s session was highly attended. POPA President Phil Rosenbaum opened the academic sessions with welcoming remarks, and two days of academic sessions were presented to the owners. Day One sessions were several seminars by PIBAL on State of the Industry, Company Update, Marketing & Product Review, Technical Issues, Policy Issues, and Service & Support Programs. Pratt & Whitney Canada and SimCom finished out Day One.
Day Two started with seminars on Electronic flight Bag & Enhanced Vision Systems, Hourly Cost Guarantee Programs, Stall Protection System/Ice Certification, PC-12 Operations, and ended with Honeywell and Guest Speaker Bill Tyndall from Pilatus Aircraft-Stans. The convention was packed with two days of intense seminars that benefited everyone attending.
For our Partners this year, we had a welcome breakfast on Friday, and Ted and Ken Otto presented the Partners Intermediate Training Program. On Saturday, the Partners Advanced Training Program was presented, a first for POPA. All attending thought both courses were worth while, and are looking forward to next year.
As usual, there were numerous social events that kicked off with a two-hour cocktail party on Thursday evening on the Pavilion, a beautiful outdoor area at the Resort. Friday’s highlight was a wonderful reception on the Pavilion, and dinner in Cascades Restaurant. Saturday night everyone enjoyed the Farewell reception and dinner, and the POPA Auction raised a record amount.
If you didn’t make it this year, make plans to attend in 2007.
